It is not resistant to the typical issues of small sensor camera, but offers some unique features and performs surprisingly well. The WX9 provides top notch quality videos and images, which knock down all cameras in the similar price range. It is the entry point of Sony for getting the backside illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor. These sensors were initially used in high performance and expensive Cybershot cameras of Sony, which offered better low light quality and faster shooting performance. The DSC-WX9 is a wonderful combination of full high definition movie capture, three-inch high resolution LCD screen and f2.6 ultrawide angle 5x 25mm equivalent lens.
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX9 is available for the price of $219.99 and comes with standard features such as backside illuminated CMOS 16-megapixel sensor, three-inch high resolution screen, file format of H.264/MPEG and JPEG/AVCHD, digital and optical image stabilization, storage media of Eye-Fi Connected support, SDXC/SD/SDHC and Memory Stick Pro Duo and bundled software for Music Transfer, Picture Motion Browser 5.5, PMB Portable 1.1 and PMB Portable 5.0. The movies captured by WX9 are excellent and on the par with an amazing pocket camera. The image stabilization and 60 frame rate make for some smooth movement; on the other hand, you will find some ghosting with fast moving objects.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX9’s ISO sensitivity ranges from Auto, 1600, 80, 800, 100, 400 and 200. The white balance mode gives you access to settings for Auto, Custom, Daylight, Flash, Cloudy, Incandescent, Fluorescent White, Fluorescent Day White and Fluorescent Natural White. Some of the recording modes include Easy, Movie, Intelligent Auto, Intelligent Sweep Panorama, Superior Auto, Background Defocus, Program, SCN and 3D Still Image. It also features some focus modes such as Face Detection (Child and Adult), Multi Autofocus, Spot AF and Center AF. The DSC-WX9 also comes with few metering modes such as Spot, Multi and Center.
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX9 offers three options for those who leave it on Auto such as Superior Auto, Easy and Intelligent Auto. The Easy mode takes away all the options except the image size, enlarging the onscreen text. The Intelligent Auto offers 10 different scene turns and types of image stabilization, face detection and dynamic range optimization. The Superior Auto gets three different multishot modes including Anti Motion Blur, Handheld Twilight and Backlight Correction HDR for shooting images with ultimate possible settings. The movie mode of DSC-WX9 has the capability to record at high definition resolutions of 1920 x 1080 in either MPEG-4 or AVCHD formats with the help of optical zoom when recording.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX9 is one of the latest cameras from Sony, which contains a backside illuminated CMOS sensor for faster performance and improved low light. One of the extensive features found in WX9 is the high performance video mode, which is capable of 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution at 60 fps (frames per second). Overall it is an excellent value for money.
