Samsung Announces Its Own 55-Inch OLED TV

Just like cross-peninsula rival LG, Samsung will be shipping its 55-inch OLED television to United States market in 2012. The company confirmed that it would aim at sometime in 2nd half of this year, while LG narrowed its release date down to 3rd quarter. Samsung hasn’t revealed the pricing yet, but claims that it will be available for around $7999. This high performance television is quite slim, measuring 0.3 inch deep. We don’t know whether the OLED will have the potential to outperform like other flat panel televisions.

The only other OLED television to see store shelves was Sony XEL-1, the 11-inch pipsqueak, which nevertheless managed to offer absolute black levels. The only screen, which comes close, is the Extreme Contrast Concept Plasma of Pioneer that offered deepest black levels. The company describes 55-inch OLED as maximized performance and masterpiece of accurate color reproduction. It suffers from off-angle color issues, which LG stated that its 55-inch OLED design addresses. The Samsung’s 55-inch OLED display will provide dual core chipset and Smart Interaction of its other high performance television sets like UNES8000.
