Philips GoGear Muse 3 – Decent Music Player
The Philips GoGear Muse 3 is the third generation of the GoGear Muse, and we must say that this time the device has plenty to offer to modern customers in the market. We aren’t saying that hypothetically, the GoGear Muse 3 has the features to back up our claim, and to start off let us tell you that the gadget comes with an impressive set of features including the liked of native support for FLAC, Ogg Vorbis and APE to keep audiophiles conceited and a FM tuner.
Now, while we would say that the Philips GoGear Muse 3 is one of the finest music player that we’ve tested, we also will like to tell that the device still lags behind Apple’s iPod, and while it is second biggest selling media player in UK (after Apple) we will like to mention that it just is not potent enough [...]

Haier America Trainer – Tailor made for fitness freaks
An MP3 player is one of the most versatile products when it comes to feature set because it does serve a variety of purposes. Some people use it just for listening to music while they are traveling and some stick them in to home audio systems for getting bigger sound. Of late, MP3 players have been used in the gym as well. People buy tiny players for hooking it to up their clothing while working out. Haier America Trainer wants to take the fitness idea to the next level because it packs in some fitness centric features on this gadget. I got this player in my labs for review and here I am blogging about it. The cost of this device is $60 and for the features that is offering, I say it delivers bang for the buck.
Haier America Trainer, just like any fitness based player, really tiny, light [...]

Samsung Q2 – Low battery life
Prices of flash memory are coming down fast and MP3 players are now exploiting the low prices by giving inexpensive music players. One such player is Samsung Q2 which is available in two storage models – 8 GB, which costs $99.99 and 16 GB which costs $129.99. The player is really affordable as compared other such devices in the competition, particularly the 16 GB one. It has great value for the money and it sounds really good too. I didn't like the design of this player much but if looks don't matter much to you, I would recommend this player for its great feature set.
Samsung Q2 might look cool to you from the photos that I have uploaded. I thought so too but the player feels pretty plasticky in the hand. You have touch sensitive buttons below the display which automatically [...]

Philips GoGear Vibe – Awful navigation interface
This player is not as good as your iPod Touch but I think this player is made to cater to a different kind of audience. At a price of $50 and with such a compact design, this music player is targeted towards people who work out a lot in the gym. It will certainly compete against iPod Shuffle. The gizmo is quite attractive looking; it is 1.5 inches wide and the height is 2.5 inches which makes it easy to fit in the pocket. On the Vibe's left, you have the power button also doubles up as the hold switch. On the right, you have menu option button along with volume rocker switch. There are no buttons on the top but on the bottom, you have 3.5 mm headphones jack, mini-USB port, loop for lanyard (lanyard is sold separately) and microphone for voice recording.
On the player's front, you have a [...]

SanDisk Sansa Clip+ – Great value for money
SanDisk and flash memory technology is a marriage made in heaven. I have checked previous SanDisk players and they have all been really good. The manufacturer has decided to revamp Sansa Clip, an extremely popular player by the manufacturer. It has the same solid foundation of its predecessor. The player is still ultra compact; has lots of useful features and the sound quality is stellar. You get all this at an unbelievable price. This player is available in 8GB, 4GB, and 2GB options and it costs $69.99, $49.99 and $39.99 respectively.
The player is 0.4 inch thick, 1.3 inch wide, 2.1 inches in height which is quite ultra compact. At 0.9 ounces, you won’t feel the weight in your pocket either. On the player’s back, there is a handy built in belt clip. Apart from these, there are some [...]

Sony S-Series Walkman – Second generation – Trimmed down features
We saw S-Series Walkman way back in 2008 and it was a big hit in the market. Mostly, when a manufacturer comes out with a next generation product, we automatically assume that it is an improvement over its predecessor. This one is an exception though. Sony has severely cut corners on this device and this might be a deal breaker for people who love a lot of features on their music player. I expected the new model to improve upon the previous one but it seems that the earlier player is much better than this one. On the bright side, the audio quality of this player is still good (but there are no improvements) and the rated battery life too long. The only reason I can think of that Sony crippled the feature is that to lower the price. This player will cost you $110 for 8 GB version and $130 for [...]

Sony E-Series Walkman (Second generation)
Sony Walkman MP3 players haven’t been down to earth when it comes to pricing and they have been relatively expensive as compared to other players in the market. The manufacturer attempts to discontinue the tradition here by offering Sony E-Series Walkman at dirt cheap prices. It is will give tough competition to even SanDisk. If you think that the low prices comes with a few compromises, you are quite correct. This player has cut some corners with regards to design and features. But on the bright side, the audio quality is still stellar and it has a big battery life. The price of 8 GB version is $80 and 16 GB model will set you back by $100.
Just like its predecessor, second generation Sony E-Series has a standard design but it doesn’t mean that the player looks boring. The interface [...]

Sony W-Series Walkman – Waterproof
There are a lot of wireless MP3 players being made right now and a unique way to make people buy it is to put it in a set of water proof headphones. Such players are mostly made for use when you are working out in the gym so even if you sweat a lot, the player will be unaffected. I first saw such gym centric MP3 player in 2009 by the same manufacturer and this the successor to that. The device has two gigs of internal memory and Sony has reduced the price by $10 as compared to its predecessor. I will recommend you this player if you are sick of dangling wires from your ears to the pocket.
The design of Sony W-Series Walkman must be praised, it is not available in single all black color. The audio modules, which are rectangular in shape, have been rounded off slightly and gives an updated [...]

Apple iPod Classic (third generation, 160GB) – Huge storage space
iPods are Apple’s flagship products and we first saw them way back in 2001 when such devices were little known in the market. Apple iPod Classic isn’t slim and that is perhaps the only feature that it doesn’t have when you compare it with Nano. But feature wise, it is rich. The cost is $429 and provides excellent value for money. It is hard to distinguish this third generation Classic from its predecessors, because it looks the same.
With 160 GB hard disk space, you can practically carry your entire music library in the pocket. I was amazed at how Apple managed to squeeze in a 160 gig hard drive in the 120 GB chassis. The dimensions are the same as it predecessors but the storage space has been increased. The screen is plastic; we would like Apple to move on to glass screen as it is [...]

Apple iPod Touch – Third generation
Apple iPod Touch is a touch screen portable media player that essentially works like an iPhone without the phone or the monthly bill. It is a bit slimmer than the iPhone since there is no need to cram in the GPS or phone technology but you get the same Wi-Fi internet connection, same Bluetooth wireless audio and the same three and half inch touch screen. Apple is selling three models of the iPod, 8GB version costs you $199, 32 GB model costs $299 and 64 GB version costs $399. They haven’t made a 16 GB model which is a bit surprising for us but looking at the features that the player has to offer, the pricing seems fair.
One thing that is worth noting is that even though the $199 model looks similar to the step up versions, it is running on hardware that is one year old. Some of the new [...]
