Nintendo DS Lite – Slimmer and brighter
Nintendo DS Lite – Slimmer and brighter
Nintendo DS Lite is the successor to Gameboy series which was really popular in the market and sold like hot cakes. The consoles comes with two screens, it looks like a flap model phone on steroids. The screen at the bottom has a touch screen interface and there is a tiny compartment down there that houses the stylus for it. It helps a lot in making the game play unique. This handheld is actually the successor to the Nintendo DS. DS Lit lives up to its name and it is quite smaller to the original console which feels like a brick in the hand. The design too is much sleeker and will certainly attract second looks. The screen brightness has also been improved upon which makes gaming more fun. But apart from the design and brightness changes, this new model offers the same game play experience  [...]

Sony PSP – Portable gaming
Sony PSP – Portable gaming
Sony has been in the console industry for over a decade and with this device, they enter the handheld market. Will it survive against Nintendo which has a huge control over this field? Sony plans to take on Nintendo by giving graphically intensive and sophisticated games and the console is supposed to deliver good in multimedia too. Yes, it can play music, movies you can also surf the Web through it. This might not be the best console available in the market right now, the games lack the innovation that you’d see in Nintendo’s products but when it comes to versatility, Sony is the new king. When it comes to looks, Sony PSP is gorgeous. You will fall in love with it at first sight. The weight is same as Nintendo DS, at 6.2 ounces along with the battery. The width is 6.7 inches, height  [...]

Nintendo DSi XL – Just a bigger screen
Nintendo DSi XL – Just a bigger screen
Nintendo DS makes one of the best selling handheld consoles and their sales are unmatched in the market. It has sold up to 128 million pieces all over the world which no other handheld has come close to. Even Sony PSP which is also regarded as a big wig in handheld console market has had only 57 million units sales all over the world. Last year we had DSi from Nintendo which was the third reincarnation of DS. It was introduced in 2 cameras of low resolution along with bigger screens and the performance was also much better than DS Lite. We like the huge screen because it gives you more real estate on to play with but the portability can be compromised. Games which are text based can also be blurred. DSi XL is the same as DS but the screen is a bit larger. If you don’t care about the big  [...]

Sony PSP Go Review – A redesigned PSP
Sony PSP Go Review – A redesigned PSP
PSP Go doesn’t look much different from its predecessors but it is more compact and there are some goodies inside like slide out controls and Bluetooth. This PSP is also the first handheld console by the company which easily fits in your pockets. However, the biggest move has to be the absence of UMD drive. All the games are now accessed by the PSP through the 16 GB internal memory. It looks like an iPhone rip off, but we don’t blame Sony here, Apple’s products are so popular now that everyone is doing what Apple is doing. On the bright side, with the internal memory, you don’t have to carry your UMD collection around with you. Just like the iPhone we would have loved to see a touch screen interface for this device. The battery in this console is not user replaceable; you have to ship  [...]

We saw PSP 2000 in 2007, it had lighter and slimmer chassis the speed was improved and it had capability to output to a TV. PSP 3000 was released in 2008 and there were 2 major upgrades in this model: inclusion of mic and better quality display. The screen also diminished ghosting as compared to PSP 2000. The dimensions of PSP 3000 are the same as its predecessor but it is also lighter. The screen is still 4.3 inches big but the quality is improved.
