Bluefox Extreme BF-401 – Some issues with call quality
Bluefox Extreme BF-401 – Some issues with call quality
I really like Bluetooth headsets since because I can wear them while working out at the gym and there is cable clutter to get in the way. Lots of manufacturer’s these days make headsets which are sports centric and cuddle up behind the neck and the most popular one amongst that is the Motorola Rokr S9HD. Bluefox Extreme too now seems to have joined the bandwagon with this set. The headset is very lightweight, comes with multipoint technology and the audio quality is quite decent. The cost of this device is $80, but you can get it for much less, online. Bluefox Extreme BF-401 is headset which is meant to be worn around the head. The device is 5.32 inches wide, 2.5 inches thick, 5.37 inches tall and weighs 1.08 ounces. The earpieces hook up behind your ear and they are connected to 2 thick  [...]

Samsung HM1000 – Affordable headset
Samsung HM1000 – Affordable headset
For Bluetooth headsets, we usually recommend high end pieces like Plantronics Discovery 975 or Aliph Jawbone Icon because of its stellar audio quality. But you might be on a stiff budget and may not be able to spend more than say $50 on a headset. This is where Samsung HM1000 steps in. Sound quality is not as good as the two aforementioned step up models but it is still close to the duo and you get good value for money. This headset also has multipoint and quick pairing technology. All this will cost you $39 which is an affordable package. From the outside, the Samsung HM1000 has the looks of a standard headset. The device is 1.8 inches long, 0.4 inch thick and 0.75 inches wide which gives the unit a basic rectangular design along with a front surface that is contoured. The multifunction  [...]

Plantronics Savi Office – Enterprise level solution
Plantronics Savi Office – Enterprise level solution
Plantronics is now a very popular name when it comes to Bluetooth headsets and the manufacturer has worked really hard to earn that respect. I previously got Plantronics Voyager Pro in my labs and I was impressed by its superior noise handling capabilities. Apart from Bluetooth devices, Plantronics also makes office and home products like Plantronics Calisto Pro, a cordless phone. This product is a manufacturer’s latest enterprise solution which works on both VoIP/softphone and landline phones like Google Talk or Skype. The base model doesn’t have Bluetooth support for cell phone use, you will need an extra $200 for Savi Go model. But it works on just VoIP and cellphones and not landline. There is no Savi headset which works on all three systems at the moment. The cost of this device is  [...]

Jabra GO 6430 – For professionals
Jabra GO 6430 – For professionals
Most of the headsets that we get in our labs are made for cell phone users. Jabra GO 6430 is a rare product which can be paired with both computer and mobile phone for VoIP applications and business softphone. The manufacturer says this headset is aimed more towards a cell phone user. It is optimized for Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 R2 and is compatible with lots of VoIP applications. The range is three hundred feet. It might not be that good looking or attractive but it is good for office. The cost of this headset is $110. Jabra GO 6430 is not a simple entry level headset, it is aimed towards the business user and the design makes this clear. The unit is 3 inches long, 0.5 inches thick and 0.7 inches wide. The slender and long headset is twice bigger than a standard headset. The body  [...]

Insignia Bluetooth – Budget headset
Insignia Bluetooth – Budget headset
This is a budget brand and hence they are relatively inexpensive. The headset fits comfortably around the ear but there is no way to adjust them so what you see is what you get. There is a built in rechargeable battery and for recharging, you can use the USB cable that is bundled along with these headphones. Best Buy sells the model alone but you can also buy a different model that comes with a little USB dongle which allows you to stream music wirelessly from your computer to the headset. Insignia Bluetooth is designed to be paired with cell phones, MP3 player which are compatible or any other device which offers stereo Bluetooth output. Motorola Rokr S9 HD – Sports centric design
Motorola Rokr S9 HD – Sports centric design
Motorola Rokr S9 first came out two years ago and quickly became popular due to its sports centric design. Now, more and more phones have Bluetooth capability and so manufacturers, including Motorola are making new headsets. The latest one to land in our test center is the Motorola Rokr S9 HD. The design is quite similar as compared to its predecessor but it now comes equipped with higher fidelity sound for the audiophiles. The headset fits comfortably around our neck and the sound quality too is good but it cannot handle sports activities as well as we’d expect. The price of this device is $99.99 but you can get it for about $60. The headset comes along with Motorola D650 iPod adapter. The design of the headset is quite similar to S9. The 2 earpieces are connected through a neckband and  [...]

Plantronics Voyager Pro Review – Another masterpiece
Plantronics Voyager Pro Review – Another masterpiece
Four years ago we saw the Plantronics Voyager 510 and it is still our favorite when it comes to Bluetooth headsets. The design is now outdated and headsets with better technology have taken its place but Plantronics Voyager 510 remains a vintage product because of its comfort and great sound quality. Both outgoing and incoming calls were crystal clear and even though it is a bit big, it feels comfortable in the ear. Plantronics now tries to deliver another masterpiece with the Plantronics Voyager Pro. The design is still outdated, it is reminiscent of 90s but the sound quality is again stellar. It was better than even Aliph Jawbone 2. There are not a lot of headsets which tackle wind noise well without any loss of voice-clarity. Priced at $99.99, this is an excellent Bluetooth headset, buy  [...]

Nokia BH-208 Review – Good call quality
Nokia BH-208 Review – Good call quality
Nokia makes products which cater to various price ranges, we previously had Nokia BH-801. It was a high end Bluetooth headset and this BH-208 belongs to the mid-range price category. This may not be as good as the BH-801 but it still has decent sound quality and is easy to use. Nokia has priced this headset at $69. Clad in a simple black plastic shell, this headset won’t draw much attention. It has rounded corners, rectangular shape and is quite compact. It is 0.4 inch deep, 0.9 inch wide and 1.65 inches long. It weighs 0.49 ounces which is actually heavier than other Bluetooth headsets but you probably won’t notice the weight much. The front of the Nokia BH-208 has button which is flat and protrudes above the device with its plastic lip. This button is easy to press while you are wearing  [...]
